Student Insurance

Brentwood School provides a secondary medical insurance policy for all Brentwood students to serve as supplemental coverage to family primary medical insurance policies when a student is injured during a school-sponsored activity. It is meant to cover most out-of-pocket expenses not covered by your primary policy. This year the coverage is administered by The Maksin Group and AIG Life Insurance Company under Policy No. AMK9043517. The deductible is $250. When an accident/injury occurs during a school-sponsored activity, the school’s Business Office will send home an insurance claim form for use in requesting reimbursement of out-of-pocket medical expenses not covered by the family primary policy. If you do not receive this claim form, please call the Operations Administrative Assistant at 310.889.2639.

Please be aware that treatment must have been commenced within 90 days of the date of injury and the benefit period is for 365 days from the date of the accident, so treatment received after one year from the date of injury is not covered under this policy.

Because the school’s plan is in excess of a family personal insurance policy, families must use their own insurance first in accordance with each individual policy. The school requests that students go to their own primary physicians for treatment of any injury incurred during a school-sponsored activity if the family’s primary policy is an HMO plan. If a family has a PPO plan, treatment should be secured based on the requirements of the primary policy.

Recently, claims for students have been made for treatment by physicians who are not part of a family’s primary plan. The school’s secondary policy is not intended to cover visits to doctors or specialists who are not a part of a student’s primary plan. Please be aware that the school does not have a “school or team doctor” to whom students should or must go to receive treatment.
