Welcome back to school! I hope this note finds you rested and invigorated to begin another exciting year. I have made a commitment to excellence with the hiring of world-class talent. We are thrilled to announce the addition of Jacqueline, John, and Bryan to the Athletics Department!

Jacqueline Hansen, M.A., will be the new Associate Athletics Director. She is the former world record holder of 15 running events, from 1500 meters to the marathon. She won 12 of 18 marathons, including the Boston Marathon, and is featured as one of the Top 10 Greatest American Runners of all time. Jacqueline will also be the new Physical Education Department Chair with expertise in health education and nutrition.
John Amneus, M.A.Ed., is the new Assistant Athletics Director. He is an elite coach having coached high school and all collegiate levels (UCLA and UCSB), producing CIF record holders, CIF Champions, on up to Olympians. John will also continue in his role as the Strength and Conditioning Coach being an active innovator in creating and implementing highly effective training programs.
Bryan Weaver is the new Aquatics Manager. He has 30 years of aquatic expertise in both water polo and swimming, with 23 league championships, 60 All-CIF selections, 17 All-Americans, and 2 National Championship Titles, as well as being on the National Masters Water Polo team earning 5 World Team Gold Medals.
Statement of Philosophy for Athletics
Brentwood School believes that physical education and athletics complement and enrich the academic experience and are integral to every student’s education and personal growth. To that end, we offer a comprehensive 7th through 12th Grade physical education curriculum and a wide array of interscholastic athletics in order to foster a love of sport and a life-long commitment to health and fitness. We view coaches as teachers and the fields and courts as extensions of the classroom. We encourage our students to participate and to strive for excellence. The school seeks to produce highly competitive teams and prizes character, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
Sportsmanship
At Brentwood, sportsmanship matters. We take great pride in hanging CIF-Southern Section Championship banners and amassing league championship plaques, but we find even more meaning in representing ourselves and our school in a consistently positive manner. We have partnered with the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), and require all students, coaches, and parents to attend workshops at the start of each season. Our students work very hard on the athletics field, compete fiercely but fairly in all competition, and give true meaning to the phrase, “We Honor the Game.” Brentwood was recognized by the Gold Coast Athletic Conference in 2006 for having demonstrated the best sportsmanship in all sports among the 18-school association.
