Gifts of Cash
Many individuals choose to make their charitable gifts by cash or check. If you itemize your deductions when filing your income taxes, your gift to Brentwood School may be fully tax-deductible up to a maximum of 50% of your adjusted gross income. The amount of your tax saving will depend on your tax bracket. Charitable gifts of cash may be used to offset additional taxes that might otherwise be due on the proceeds from the sale of a home, investments, or other property. Matching Gifts
This is a great way to maximize your gift. You could possibly double or even triple your gift if your employer has a matching gift program. Simply send us the appropriate paperwork from your human resources or personnel department, and your gift to Brentwood School will be matched according to your company's guidelines.
Securities
You may achieve tax savings by making your gift via stocks or other capital assets. If you donate appreciated, marketable securities that you have owned for more than one year and one day, you receive a charitable deduction for the full market value on the date of the transfer. Neither you nor Brentwood School will be required to pay any capital gains tax on this type of gift. If you have securities that have decreased in value, you may be able to take a deductible loss when you sell the stocks and donate the proceeds.
