Lower School (K-6)

Welcome to the Lower school: Grades K-6. The Lower school provides a learning atmosphere filled with endless possibilities.

Children are encouraged to be curious and creative while developing confidence in their abilities. The curriculum is traditional in nature with an emphasis on reading, writing, and math, yet the teaching and learning process is child-centered. Written and designed by the faculty, our program is unique to Brentwood School. Grades study various themes integrated with the subjects of social studies, science, and other “special” subjects. Basic skills are taught, and the thematic approach encourages students to retain their enthusiasm and love for learning at the same time as they are learning the basic building blocks of school work.

Community of Caring

The core values of trust, respect, responsibility, honesty, caring, and community build the foundation of our community and our character education program at Brentwood School. Learn More »

  • The EagleTri Fitness Challenge Photos

At the 5th Annual Eagle Tri Fitness Challenge on Sunday, April 28, sixty students, teachers, and parents from across the divisions challenged themselves to run a mile, ride 2.5 miles on their bikes around campus, and swim 125 yards in the pool—and they all had a blast in the process. Middle School teacher Erik Becker and Terrence H. ’14 were given a complimentary Eagle Tri T-shirt to honor their successful completion of all 5 Eagle Tris. Medals awaited finishers at the end along with a big dose of personal pride. Check out the video of the event, which includes aerial coverage from the famous Quadrocopter... and a photo gallery of our website, courtesy of Jamie Chow.

  • Lower School Crayon Club

Over the course of the past year, I have received a series of emails from Tamyra Fuller, Admissions Counselor on the West Campus, that are filled with amazing descriptions of recent Crayon Club meetings. In her usual enthusiastic way, Tamyra fills these emails with adjectives and superlatives, expressing how much the experience meant to her and how much she appreciates the families who choose to share their cultural backgrounds with the community. I was always fascinated, because every one of these meetings could have led to its own newsletter article, as they were each special and noteworthy in their own ways. So I thought that it would be nice to get a good overview of the program from the woman who makes it all happen. An hour later, and with very few words on my part, Tamyra had illuminated what Crayon Club is really all about...and now I see that this club is really her most special “baby.” [cont'd...read more]

  • Lower School STEAM Room

Lower School teachers Andrea Demarest and Cassy Clarke were quite inspired by the recent STEAM Day held on the East Campus on March 9. As a result, the two teachers have recently opened up the "STEAM Room" once a week during lunch to continue to offer activities with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). In just the first two weeks, the room has become quite a popular lunch time activity with over 40 students attending...
