Brentwood School’s Upper School Athletic Program is one of the premier athletic programs in West Los Angeles. With over 21 acres of field and competition space, our student-athletes can train, practice and compete right here on campus. The Brentwood Varsity Coaches act as the director of their sport for 7-12 grades. This coordination helps to ensure skill development, consistency in terminology, and a strong sense of community between the Middle and Upper School. We are members of the Gold Coast League and the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Our student-athletes have competed for CIF Southern Section Championships 78 times in our 43-year history.
Statement of Philosophy for Athletics
Brentwood School believes that physical education and athletics complement and enrich the academic experience and are integral to every student’s education and personal growth. To that end, we offer a comprehensive 7th through 12th Grade physical education curriculum and a wide array of interscholastic athletics in order to foster a love of sport and a life-long commitment to health and fitness. We view coaches as teachers and the fields and courts as extensions of the classroom. We encourage our students to participate and to strive for excellence. The school seeks to produce highly competitive teams and prizes character, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

The newly formed Brentwood Athletes Leadership Council consists of forty Varsity athletes, two from each team. These athletes were nominated by their head coach at the end of last year to represent their team on this brand new council. The purpose of the council is for its student members, coaches, special guests, and staff of the Athletic Department to discuss topics and ideas about leadership, building team culture, and supporting team spirit. The council will meet eight times throughout the year during lunch.
