Brentwood School’s Upper School Athletic Program is one of the premier athletic programs in West Los Angeles. With over 21 acres of field and competition space, our student-athletes can train, practice and compete right here on campus. The Brentwood Varsity Coaches act as the director of their sport for 7-12 grades. This coordination helps to ensure skill development, consistency in terminology, and a strong sense of community between the Middle and Upper School. We are members of the Gold Coast League and the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Our student-athletes have competed for CIF Southern Section Championships 78 times in our 43-year history.
Statement of Philosophy for Athletics
Brentwood School believes that physical education and athletics complement and enrich the academic experience and are integral to every student’s education and personal growth. To that end, we offer a comprehensive 7th through 12th Grade physical education curriculum and a wide array of interscholastic athletics in order to foster a love of sport and a life-long commitment to health and fitness. We view coaches as teachers and the fields and courts as extensions of the classroom. We encourage our students to participate and to strive for excellence. The school seeks to produce highly competitive teams and prizes character, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

I recently returned from a professional development trip where I visited 8 colleges and universities that many of our current students have on their college list: Amherst, Williams, Skidmore, Middlebury, Dartmouth, Bowdoin, Bates, and Colby...
The Class of 2016 will send 11 talented student-athletes off to college next year to play their sports at the collegiate level. On April 28, they all sat at a table in front of the audience of students, faculty, parents, and coaches, with pens in hand, ready to sign their letters of intent to begin their collegiate athletics careers. Behind them on the screen, photos of each athlete as a child appeared, perhaps donning their first football uniform, or making a basket for the first time. Each student had a moment to speak and announce their college, but first they all thanked their parents, coaches, and teammates for years of support and encouragement, with special thanks to Riki-Ann Serrins, College Counseling Liaison for Student Athletes...
When I think back to my youth athletic experience, I am instantly fulfilled by the memories of playing on dozens of rec league, elementary, middle, and high school teams. I can remember the excitement of putting on my uniform and playing with my friends and classmates. Getting to play after school was the highlight of my youth...
