Assistant Director of Equity and Inclusion

Brentwood School, a vibrant and diverse K-12 independent school, is looking for a full-time Assistant Director of Equity and Inclusion who will work closely with and assist the Director of Equity and Inclusion. This position requires a trained teacher with demonstrated experience in the the areas of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The Assistant Director, in partnership with the Director of E and I, will assist in overseeing the integrated and collaborative implementation of the school's Statement of Purpose, values, and strategic agenda through curricular, co-curricular, and community programs. The Assistant Director will help plan and facilitate events, programs, and committees in the areas of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, including but not limited to:

  • All-Family Celebration of Diversity
  • Professional Development
  • Assemblies/Community Time
  • African-American Read-In
  • All Affinity Group Events
  • Diversity Day
  • Young Women's Conference

Essential tasks and responsibilities include:

Serve as a member of the Diversity Council, coordinate with Parent Affinity Group leaders and Faculty/Staff Affinity Group leaders

Help oversee Student Affinity Groups including the Student Diversity Council

Along with the Director of E and I, co-teach an established 9th Grade Foundations unit focused on multiculturalism and identity

Supervise and help to manage the Multicultural Center

Serve as a resource to all constituents, including faculty, staff, and parents

Support and advance school-wide initiatives in the areas of hiring, admissions, financial assistance, curriculum, athletics, special programs, etc.

Strategize with Lower, Middle and Upper Schools and various departments, including Business, Admissions, Communications, Advancement, Service Learning, Student Life, Summer Programs,and the Belldegrun Center for Innovative Leadership

Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to work with others as well as independently
  • Ability to confidently and creatively problem solve
  • Even-temperament, excellent listening skills
  • A commitment to ongoing professional growth and development
  • A genuine joy, enthusiasm, and passion for students and for education
  • An advanced degree desired; academic experience in areas of social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, preferred
