Assistant Director of the Lower School

Brentwood School, a vibrant and diverse K-12 independent school, is looking for an Assistant Director of its Lower School beginning July, 2018. We are seeking individuals with administrative experience to assist the Lower School Director in maintaining a dynamic environment in the Lower School. Candidates should have at least 5 years of teaching or other relevant experience, preferably in independent schools. Candidates holding advanced degrees are preferred.

The Assistant Lower School Director should:

  • Be highly organized and have excellent communication skills
  • Exhibit a collaborative approach to leadership that produces effective decision making and reveals a genuine enthusiasm for working with colleagues, sharing strategies, and exploring effective ways to enhance the student experience
  • Possess a passion for teaching and learning and find joy in working with young children
  • Cultivate an equitable and diverse school community

Specific duties include:

  • Provide overall assistance to the Lower School Director in the routine operation of the Lower School
  • Work with Lower School Director regarding student conduct
  • Counsel students when necessary, working closely with the Lower School Counselor
  • Attend all grade level, faculty, administrative, and other meetings
  • Oversee the After School Activities and Extended Day Programs
  • Assist in overseeing transportation with bus and carpool
  • Manage the correspondence, logistics, and preparations for our Cultural Exchange Program with the Kyonggi School in Seoul, Korea.
  • Coordinate and organize school events, such as Picture Day, Instrumental Coffee House, Celebration of Lower School Years, and Sixth Grade Promotion events
  • Participate in Admission events
  • Assist in the informal observations of faculty
  • Participate in the process of hiring faculty and staff
  • Manage orders for school supplies as needed through the school year
  • Engage in various aspects of Lower School scheduling (including class assignments and room allocation) in coordination with the Lower School Director
  • Assist the Director of Equity and Inclusion with Lower School initiatives
