Director of the Annual Fund

Brentwood School, a vibrant and diverse K-12 independent school, is looking for an experienced Director of the Annual Fund to join the advancement team beginning July, 2018. Our new colleague will be a creative collaborator with a proven track record of successful fundraising. S/he will also possess superlative verbal and written communication skills. The Director of the Annual Fund reports to the Assistant Head of School and works closely with all members advancement team. S/he also interfaces with the Parents Association and certain board committees to advance the mission and goals of the School, and to optimize philanthropy relative to capacity.

It is expected that the successful candidate will:

  • Foster a culture of community in the work of advancement
  • Demonstrate successful planning and execution of a multi-million dollar annual fund
  • Nurture the growth of both participation and dollars raised across constituencies
  • Support programming that strengthens constituents' connection to the school
  • Model a collaborative approach when working with faculty, staff, and volunteers
  • Possess five+ years of progressively more responsible experience in the field of advancement

The Director of the Annual Fund should:
  • Have a passion for creating meaningful connections between the school and its community members
  • Demonstrate talent for building a compelling case for support
  • Be highly organized and detail-oriented, with solid experience in collecting and interpreting data
  • Exhibit a collaborative approach to leadership that produces effective decision making and that reveals a genuine enthusiasm for working with colleagues and volunteers
  • Possess a bachelor's degree or above, ideally in a related field

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for all aspects of a successful multi-million dollar annual fund for current parents, grandparents, and employees
  • In collaboration with Assistant Head of School, Alumni Relations, and Communications team, develops annual fund campaign theme and visual identity for all constituencies
  • Provides ongoing and targeted evaluation and analysis to meet goals
  • Staffs a tiered volunteer leadership structure
  • Uses multiple channels in soliciting and stewarding annual fund donors, with a specific focus on a personal and detailed approach
  • New Family Education: oversees the new family experience as it relates to philanthropy at Brentwood
  • Advancement Committee: plans and manifests the work of the committee in collaboration with the Assistant Head of School and the Chair of the Advancement Committee
  • In close partnership with the Director of Alumni and Parent of Alumni Engagement and the Assistant Head of School, develops and implements a comprehensive program for Grandparents
  • Partners with the Assistant Head of School and the Director of Major gifts to review prospect research and create donor strategies in all areas of giving
  • Ensures timely submission of reports to foundations and corporate donors
  • Serves as a resource and liaison for the Parents Association
  • Logistics for major special event opportunities as needed
  • Assistance with staffing volunteers as needed for special events
  • Supervise and mentor Assistant to Alumni Relations and Annual Fund
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Head of School or the Senior Administrative Team
