Brentwood School, a vibrant and diverse K-12 independent school, is looking for an Upper School
Computer Science Teacher to begin in August 2023. We are looking for an individual from an
independent, public, private, or charter school, with classroom experience in teaching Computer
Science courses to upper school students (grades 9-12) and one or more degrees in Computer Science -
or- a related discipline.
It is expected that a successful candidate would:
- Teach four classes per semester (Fall and Spring)
- Demonstrate experience and knowledge teaching AP Computer Science courses (APCS Principles and APCS A, with an emphasis on APCS Principles)
- Demonstrate experience and knowledge teaching introductory computer science courses (e.g., Introduction to Programming, Exploring Computer Science)
- Show proficiency and fluency in one or more text-based programming languages (e.g., Java, python, C++, with an emphasis on Java and python)
- Show proficiency and fluency in one or more block-based programming languages (e.g.,Scratch, AppInventor, Snap, MakeCode)
- Be proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and web design
- Meet frequently with the Dept. Chair to plan, implement, and reflect on existing and new curriculum and coursework
- Utilize educational technology throughout all instruction and coursework
- Engage and support students of varied identities, lifestyles, learning styles, and beliefs
- Create an environment that fosters open discussion, with the freedom to express varied points of view
- Engage in professional and personal development and commit to growth in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Participate and initiate opportunities that demonstrate one's growth, knowledge, and skills
- Be accessible to and communicate with students and parents (including at the end of quarter and semester grading periods)
- Serve as a faculty advisor to a group of students
- Perform additional duties and participate actively in the life of the school, including advising a student activity, chaperoning events, and attending student events

COVID vaccination will be required for this position unless candidate has a legally valid
exemption.
The salary range for this position is annual $69,441 - $100,941.
