During the admissions process at Brentwood School, we have the privilege of meeting wonderful children from across the world. We focus on each child as an individual and as a prospective Brentwood Eagle who will have a profound impact on the lives of their classmates and our community.
Community is at the heart of Brentwood School along with being one of our school’s Core Values. For this reason, our Admissions team is committed to creating classes composed of intelligent, kind, talented, and diverse students and supporting them during their time at Brentwood and beyond. We also look for families who share our commitment to a diverse and inclusive community in which children and their families of all backgrounds are included, supported, and loved.
So how do we realize our Core Values of Community and Diversity? It begins with outreach to a wide variety of schools and organizations along with attendance at a number of community outreach and recruitment events. In addition to visiting pre-schools and local independent, parochial, and public schools, the team works with KIPP, Para los Ninos, Young Eisner Scholars, Private School Village, Private School Access, A Better Chance, and the Independent School Alliance. We have also forged relationships with public school administrators, especially after we moved the 6th Grade into the Middle School which opened many more positions for new students. There are also a number of events, such as Community and Conversations, where parents and guardians are able to take a closer look at our programs in service learning, character education, diversity, equity and inclusion, and the K-12 experience. And during our Open Houses over the past few years, parents, guardians and students participate in various mini-lessons including multicultural lessons from the 9th Grade Foundations class.
The efforts go beyond the recruitment process as well. During conversations with parents and guardians, we discuss the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in their family’s life and values. This is incredibly important because one of the best predictors of a child’s success in school is for the family and school to be mission aligned - and at Brentwood that means agreeing to uphold the school’s Core Values.
We also recognize that as families explore Brentwood as a school for their family, they are looking at all aspects of the school, in addition to the strong academic program. It is for this reason that the Admissions Team participates in the school's curriculum committees, parent affinity group meetings, student support teams, the establishment of transportation routes, and new student/family transition teams.
We are dedicated to an environment in which all children will have the opportunity to enjoy their youth and realize their potential, and where their unique interests, talents, points of view, and varied backgrounds will be respected and celebrated.
