This year, the Upper School Brentwood Dance Company teamed with the BCIL to teach a dance class to PUC Excel Charter Academy’s middle schoolers whose dance program had been cut three years ago due to lack of funding for the arts. Through this experience, our company learned invaluable leadership skills while teaching. In order to best serve our students, we had to be flexible and, in the spur of the moment, deviate from our plan to rethink how we approached teaching our students. Our company had to collaborate to become one entity, embracing our pivot, and as a result, we seized the opportunity to grow with our students.
