New BCIL Members and Courses
by Darlene Fukuji, BCIL Director, and Zachary Chien, BCIL Assistant Director

The Belldegrun Center for Innovative Leadership is excited to share some updates as we begin our 5th year at Brentwood School. First and foremost, BCIL’s growth has only been possible due to the unwavering support from our faculty, students, staff, parents, guardians, alumni, and the preceding leadership team. Thank you to all who have generously engaged with BCIL and, of course, to the Belldegrun family, without whom these wonderful opportunities for our community would not be possible.

The BCIL Collaborative team continues to grow, as we welcome five new members—three Curriculum Innovator and Collaborators (CICs), who provide curricular support and professional development resources for faculty to further integrate the BCIL mission; a full-time Fabrication Innovator and Collaborator at the Lower School; a K-12 STEM & Applied Science Research Lab Coordinator; and a part-time Applied Science Lab Assistant.

  • Lower School CIC: Grace Lieberson, 3rd Grade Teacher

  • Middle School CIC: Gianna Vargas, 7th Grade Science Teacher

  • Upper School STEM CIC: Laura Feucht, Lab Biology & AP Biology Teacher

  • Lower School Fabrication Innovative and Collaborator: Lauren Weisfeld

  • K-12 STEM & Applied Science Research Lab Coordinator: Aidyl Gonzalez

  • Applied Science Lab Assistant: Jon Alexander ’13

We are also thrilled to announce three new classes to add to our ever-growing list of BCIL-designated courses:

  • An Introduction to the Technology, the Economics, and the Philosophy of Bitcoin (Tim Haehn)

  • Innovative Design and Architecture (Shane Sahadi)

  • Sustainable Graphic & Product Design (John Wan)

  • Marine Biology 2: Ecology & Human Impacts on the Ocean (Dawn Roje)

Stay tuned for more announcements throughout the year, and welcome back to school! Parents and guardians can be involved with the BCIL in a number of ways—as speakers or mentors, by providing internships, and more. Please fill out this Google Form if you are interested.
