This year’s Summer at Brentwood offerings include exciting opportunities to engage with the BCIL across all three divisions.
For rising 9-12th graders, we are welcoming applications to the BCIL Summer Leadership Institute from students across Los Angeles. The goal of this program is to bring together youth leaders from public, private, and charter schools to develop their leadership skills and meaningfully engage with current challenges in the L.A. area. This year’s theme is “Reimagining Economic Development and Social Entrepreneurship in Los Angeles,” and will include site visits across the city. In the Lower School, we have teamed up with the National Inventors’ Hall of Fame to offer an invention program where students engage with real world challenges and prepare prototypes, marketing plans, and pitches around modules that include Flight Lab, Earth’s ecosystems, entrepreneurship, and innovation in sports.
In the Middle School, we are teaming up with GoBabyGo! and local hospitals to design and build customized battery-powered ride-on cars for children with limited mobility. Building collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills, Middle Schoolers will study engineering and work together to design, build, and tailor vehicles for the specific needs of each child. At the end of the week, the children will receive their customized cars and zip around in new and exciting ways!
