On Wednesday, it was a joy and delight to watch the faces of our new Middle and Upper School students as they found their student mentor in the Eagle-to-Eagle program. Now in its 3rd year, the program is designed to help facilitate the transition to Brentwood by a 1:1 or 1:2 relationship with a student leader.
All of the Eagles had emailed their Eaglets (new students) to welcome them and let them know they were excited to meet them in person. As our Middle School students came down the stairs, their buddy stood with a sign with their names. The “Eagle” met with the “Eaglet,” checked in, and will support them in their Brentwood experience. Each pair was matched according to listed priorities in the student interest forms.
Said a few Eagles after their initial meeting: “My two Eaglets are very sweet and friendly...I had a great time answering many questions they had about Middle School. So excited to be doing this and to start this partnership!”
Elena Cardenas, Administrative Assistant to the BCIL, is the key coordinator for the program and works in collaboration with the BCIL, Office of Equity and Inclusion, and Admissions Department. For students interested in an incredible opportunity to be a mentor next year, we will hold an interest meeting in the spring.
