Women's History Month at the Lower School
by Dr. Susie Lyons, Lower School Director

On Friday, March 1, Lower School students gathered in the Arts and Athletics Building to kick off Women's History Month. Our K-6 students were surrounded by photos of Maya Angelou, Gloria Steinem, Jane Goodall, Katherine Hepburn, Jane Fonda, Malala Yousafzai, and Barbara Kruger as three 6th Grade students launched into an introduction and interpretive dance about how women have contributed to our society. Some 3rd Grade students performed the song "To All the Little Girls" and a video clip was shared of Hillary Clinton's inspirational words to young women across the country and around the world. Students and faculty heard from two former BWS female students Katherine and Christina Schwarzenegger as well as two entrepreneurial moms Sarah Prinze and Galit Laibow with Food Stirs regarding which women have inspired and supported them and how this has impacted their journey and careers. This inspirational kickoff was followed by a presentation on Monday, March 4, with guest speaker Susan Hardisty as we honored women in math and science. and Edy Levin also introduced the "bracelet project" for the Lower School.
