Educational Technology

In this age of technological advances, reading and watching are just the beginning.

Welcome to the Brentwood School Educational Technology Support website. We integrate technology into everyday classroom experiences so students enjoy real interaction in real time. To this end, we require all students (grades 6-12) to bring their own MacBook to school everyday. Our Educational Technology program allows students to explore beyond the classroom as they experiment with the latest programs, devices, online resources, and more. The Educational Technology Department works with our students from Kindergarten through 12th grade to help them develop strategies which leverage technology to achieve their learning goals.

Technology in the learning environment

  • Kindergarten - 2nd grade has 1:1 iPads for daily use
  • 3rd - 5th grade has 1:1 Chromebooks for daily use.
  • 6th - 12th grade students each bring their own MacBook

AI: Reasons to Be Hopeful

AI: Reasons to Be Hopeful
by Jill Bergeron, Middle School Director

It’s been a year and a half since the release of ChatGPT and numerous other AI platforms. If it feels like a revolution, that’s because in many ways it is. It’s easy to get caught up in the negative repercussions — schools have seen a rise in academic integrity issues, which is certainly reason for concern. And we’ve all read the news stories about teenagers who distributed doctored photos of their classmates. Despite all this, we have many reasons to be hopeful about this fledgling technology.

1:1 MacBook Program

Every incoming 6th-12th grade student is required to have a MacBook for daily use on campus. These MacBooks are not only a useful tool to complete work in and out of the classroom, but they also allow teachers to work with students in class to meet the educational technology goals of our students. Whether using their MacBook to access a digital textbook, collaborate with peers in creating a project, conduct research in multiple windows at the same time, or write code in a computer science class, these MacBooks are versatile and capable of enriching the students’ learning experience.

For Fall 2025, students in grades 6-12 will need a MacBook with a minimum of the following:
  • 2022 or newer
  • Apple M1 Processor or newer
  • at least 8GB Ram
  • at least 256GB Hard drive
  • able to run MacOS Sequoia
