Upper School (9-12)
During the course of a day in the Upper School, our students not only engage in vigorous academics and sharpen established skills, but also reach beyond the familiar to explore new interests. It is a journey of inspiration and self-awareness, alongside the development of critical skills. No two days are ever the same. We engage our students in relevant conversations and investigation, preparing them for the world they will inherit. We also care for our students and challenge them to validate and understand others' perspectives, growing in understanding and empathy. Encouraged to forge a unique academic and social path, our students leave Brentwood able to think critically, imagine, and apply academic skills aligned with their goals. The approach builds leaders, and it's not surprising that so many of our programs are student-initiated and student-run. Brentwood students pursue their curiosities in depth, buoyed by the support of dedicated faculty.
A Welcome from Upper School Director Dana Gonzalez
As teenagers grow and self-actualize, our curriculum and faculty both nurture and challenge them. Every student graduates from Brentwood with an exceptional education and a deep understanding of themselves, others, and the world around them. Independence and self-advocacy are a big part of an Upper Schooler’s journey, which requires trust, accountability, communication, and openness from all the adults who will shepherd them to graduation. Our goal is to make sure our graduates have been challenged to grow and overcome obstacles while being cared for by the adults in their lives. Setting them up with the skills they will need as adults is at the heart of what we do.
