In August of 2021, Brentwood senior Ezra Frech walked away from the high jump pit at the Tokyo Paralympic Games after missing his chance to medal by less than an inch. Securing 5th place but devastated, he locked eyes with his father, who said, "You might not have done it here, but you're a world champion. Let's go!"
So began the road to the Para Athletics World Championships, held in Paris in July, where Ezra became the youngest world champion in his sport and broke the paralympic world record for high jump … twice. Loss proved to be his greatest motivation.
