Kohshin Finley grew up surrounded by art and creativity in South Los Angeles; with two fashion designer parents, his venture into art and a creative life seemed inevitable. Still an LA resident today, Finley creates portraits that convey the power and beauty of his friends as well as a sense of intimacy and personal connection.
His latest works display the intricate nature of love — in its brevity, density, and everything in between. The series of oil-based artworks captures friends and flowers on large-scale canvas, driven by a sense that love is not adequately represented in art.
Finley has developed a practice that is becoming widely recognized by galleries and institutions in his native Los Angeles and beyond. He recently showcased work at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's Black American Portraits exhibition, as well as in a group exhibition with Jeffrey Deitch Gallery during Art Basel Miami. His artwork has been featured in New American Paintings twice, and he was one of Fine Art Connoisseur's Five to Watch. Finley has also been featured in the Los Angeles Times, The Cut, Cultured, the Huffington Post, Artillery, and on BuzzFeed and Hyperallergic.
