Author Visit At The Lower School Library

by Yapha Mason, Lower School Librarian

Have you ever read a really good book and wished that you could ask the author questions? The 5th Grade students in the Lower School Book Club had this opportunity on Monday when author Eleanor Glewwe joined them for lunch. Glewwe is the author of the fantasy novels Sparkers and Wildings, as well as a graduate student of linguistics at UCLA. The students had all read Sparkers, and many of them had read the companion novel as well. These books, set in a fantasy world where some people have magic and some people don't, address issues of discrimination and classism in an engaging adventure story appropriate for Grades 4 and up. Ms. Glewwe patiently answered their questions and listened to their ideas about her books, in addition to explaining linguistics. Although she rarely does school visits, we appreciate her taking the time to meet with her fans.
