Community is the secret sauce of Brentwood School. Welcoming, warm, and caring are the words voiced again and again in descriptions of the Brentwood experience.

A positive and supportive environment where students feel respected and encouraged in all aspects of their education is the commitment of our faculty and the theme throughout our school’s core values — trust, respect, responsibility, honesty, caring, diversity, and community. These values guide our approach to learning and community life and ground an education for a lifetime.

Our partnership with parents is genuine and a great strength. From on-campus events to parent-centered groups and gatherings, Brentwood embraces this relationship as essential to educational success.

We believe in character education as central to preparing our students to shape a future with meaning and purpose, and we encourage open and courageous dialogue, with an emphasis on deep respect for one another.

Teamwork is central to the experience, and we create opportunities for every student to participate in academic and extracurricular activities that most align with their growing interests. Service projects and community involvement are also integral to the Brentwood experience. Students are challenged to engage in civic duty and to think critically and creatively about how to contribute to the world beyond our campus.

Beyond the classroom, our sense of community is evident at sporting events, plays, concerts, and even casual student “coffeehouse” performances. Friends show up, and they cheer enthusiastically through wins and struggles. At Brentwood, we are “All In.”

Once an Eagle, always an Eagle rings true for those who have attended Brentwood School.

What does community mean? It is an invitation to participate — in classroom discussions, advisory groups, teams, and performances. For parents and guardians, it’s a warm welcome to our active Parents Association. Community looks like a packed Homecoming game and a Brentwood crowd at a playoff two hours away. It looks like outreach for families in need, and a senior walking with a kindergartner on the first day of school. There’s a reason alumni come back: students feel at home at Brentwood School.

We extend our care to the community beyond our campuses. Students understand their responsibility to the world because Service Learning is built into the routine, with special emphasis on outreach through our Veteran Partnership. Service Learning starts in kindergarten, and because the emphasis is on the learning, the program helps build a caring community on our campuses and beyond. Our Service Learning program helps students turn the school's Core Values into action.

Community of Caring

Our Lower School has earned the distinction of National School of Character since 2011. Students meet weekly for Community of Caring time where they discuss conflict resolution, inclusion/exclusion, problem solving, sportsmanship, the core values, and the honor code. These weekly discussions provide the children a forum to present questions or concerns, modeling open and effective communication.
